Oct 21: Train service on Saturday has been suspended for security reasons
in the Kashmir, where separatists have called for a general strike and civil
curfew against braid chopping incidents in the valley. 'We have suspended all
trains in the valley for security reasons', a senior railway official told UNI
on Saturday morning. According to him, an advisory has been received from
police to suspend all trains today. Therefore, he said, no train will chug on
Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north and similarly no
train will run on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in
Jammu, he added. We are acting as per the advice of police to suspend and
resume the train service, he added. Admitting to the fact that passengers are
facing inconvenience due to suspension of train service, he said that Saturday
and Monday witnesses major rush of passengers. Train service has become very
popular in the Kashmir valley because as it was low on cost, fast and safe as
compared to other mode of transport. The separatists have called for a strike
and civil curfew today against braid chapping in the valley, where over 100
such incidents have been reported during the past two months,while the police
failed to make any break-through in this regard. UNI
