Srinagar, Oct 2 : Alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid, killing a militant near Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara on early Monday morning, official sources said. They said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Balkhadiya post in Tangdhar sector in Kupwara this morning under the cover of darkness. However, when challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said, adding the fire was returned ensuing an encounter. A militant was killed so far, they said, adding a fierce encounter was going on when the reports last came in. Additional security forces have been rushed to the area and a massive hunt has been launched in the dense forest to nab the other militants. Recently Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited the forward areas in Kupwara and reviewed the security situation on the LoC. She was informed about the infiltration attempts being made by trained militants waiting at launch pads near the LoC to sneak into this side before the higher reaches are closed due to heavy snowfall. However, she was informed about the measures taken to foil any infiltration attempt by militants from PoK. UNI
