1 HM militant killed in encounter with security forces in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 20: One Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the forest area at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
      Army sources told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants in Sheer forest area at Tral, a joint search operation was launched by 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police and CRPF in the area.
      However, when security forces were moving toward a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.
      The security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they said, adding one militant was killed in the initial firing.
      “The slain militant was identified as Adil Ahmad Chopan, a resident of Lurao in Tral,” they said, adding one SLR was recovered from the encounter site. They said Chopan, a Category B militant, belongs to HM.
      Meanwhile, additional security forces have been rushed to further cordon off the area. “The operation was still going on when the reports last came in,” they added.
