Guwahati,
Nov 8: Twelve Assam public civil, police and allied services officers were
arrested by Assam Police in a coordinated operation from across the state in
the wee hours today.
ADG of Assam Police Pallab Bhattacharyya confirmed the arrest of 12 officers so
far. He said, "As the number is large, we are making the arrests in a phased
manner. More arrests will follow." The officers are being brought to thr Assam Police Special Branch headquarters
here and they are expected to be produced in the court here later today. The arrests have been made in the 'cash-for-job' scam, in which the then-Assam
Public Service Commission chairman Rakesh Paul, two members of APSC and others,
had already been arrested. The arrested 12 officers are among the 25 officers whose handwriting and
signature specimens were collected in June this year and sent for forensic
verification. The verification report found discrepancies in the collected specimens and the
handwriting in their answer scripts. UNI
