New Delhi, Nov 27: It was a perfect weekend for Delhiites as the
famous Nizami Bandhu on Sunday evening enthralled the music lovers in the
capital with an evening of Sufi music.
At a musical extravaganza, graced by BJP MP Meenakshi lekhi
and Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, Nizami Bandhu entertained Delhiites with a
soulful rendering of Sufi music at Central park in Connaught place, including
their popular hits from Rockstar and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'.The Sufi evening was organised by the Amir Khusro Foundation as part of its efforts to promote and encourage emerging talent in field of classical arts and Sufi music.
IPS officer and Advisor of Amir Khusro Foundation Ajay Chaudhary said 'Mehfil -e -Qawwali' was part of the Amir Khusro foundation's effort to promote India's folk culture and its ancient traditions.
'The sufism and folk culture is an ancient tradition of India. So to promote it further and Ganga-Jamuni tehjib to be taken further is the aim of our foundation.
'We want to encourage people who are working for communal harmony and national integration. We feel that qawaali is an only medium that connects everything because all languages like hindi, Urdu, Persian are included in it. This is not for a particular religion, or community, but for India's overall culture,' Mr Chaudhry said.
He said the foundation was constantly making efforts to encourage emerging talent in the country.
'We do seminars, events for the upcoming artists. We encourage those who do not have financial support,' he said.
Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav lauded efforts by the foundation to promote India's 'Ganga-Jamuni tehjeeb'.
'I am obliged to Amir Khusro foundation that it is promoting our Ganga-Jamuni tehjeeb and national integration. Our country is unique with different kinds of languages, cultures, religion, and sufism has done a lot to preserve this culture,' he said. At the event, Kathak exponent Rani Khanam was being awarded for promoting national integration. Doctor and entrepreneur Ritesh Malik bagged the achiever’s award. Ms Lekhi stressed the need for everyone to make contribution towards national unity and cultural integration.
'I congratulate Rani Khanam and Ritesh Malik who by their hard work have achieved something for the country and have given new light to the country. I request everyone to help in the contribution of national unity, culture and integration. Our aim should be to ensure that love and brotherhood is maintained in the country and Indian culture us kept alive,' she said. UNI
