Srinagar, Nov 27:  Chairmen of both the factions of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq remained under house arrest while separatist organisation chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik was arrested on Monday morning and lodged in central Jail, Srinagar.
Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence, where authorities have imposed restrictions alongwith Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), downtown and Kralkhud to prevent any demonstration on Monday, when separatists had called for a general strike against alleged ill treatment of Kashmiri detenues in jails within and outside the state. A spokesman for the front said a police party arrested Malik and shifted him to central jail. A spokesman for the moderate HC said a large number of security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz since yesterday. He said a senior police officer informed Mriwaiz that he has been put under house arrest and cannot leave till further orders. There was no relief for Geelani who remained under house arrest for several months, a spokesman for the amalgam said. The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising of Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik have called for a general strike to express solidarity with Kashmiri prisoners lodged in jails in and outside the state. The separatist leaders had announced to lead protest demonstrations in Srinagar against alleged ill treatment of detenues in prison.
