Mysuru, Nov 29: Karnataka Chief Minister and Senior Congress leader
Siddaramaiah on Wednesday claimed that "Modi wave is gradually decreasing
in the country and Congress will win the Assembly election in Gujarat and form
the next government."
Speaking to newsmen here, he said that party
tickets will be given to able candidates after consulting the
party workers. "If former Minister C H Vijayashankar want to return to Congress, he is welcome. I have not spoken to him regarding this," he added.
Replying to a question, Mr Siddaramaiah said there was nothing wrong in writer Chandrashekhar Patil (Champa) asking people to vote for parties which believe in secularism? Why should BJP feel offended for his statement?. "If BJP believes in secularism, they don’t have to worry about the statement by Champa. If they oppose
his statement, it means they have no faith in secularism. The Constitution has clearly said that we are a secular country. What is new in Champa’s statement? Should he have supported communal forces instead? We have no need to do politics using writers.
To another question, Mr Siddaramaiah said that "Karnataka is not getting its due funds from the Centre. The Union government has to treat all the states equally. The Centre gives only 42 per cent of the collected tax to the state governments. It functions based on the recommendations of finance commission. State has received Rs 1,550 crore as drought compensation whereas Maharashtra received Rs 8,500 crore and Gujarat Rs 4,000 crore. We have more dry land compared to those states but we received lesser compensation."
About allegations against Minister Vinay Kulkarni, he said that "Vinay Kulakarni has no connection with Yogish Gowda’s murder. His name is not there in the FIR. JD(S) State President H D Kumaraswamy says he will make a man from minority community Deputy CM if JD(S) comes to power. Can they come to power with their own strength? While making allegations in politics, we should use cultured language."
Responding to the allegation that the members of royal family were not invited for the Sahitya Sammelana, the Chief Minister said, "Our job is to provide fund. It is the responsibility of organisers to look after the rest." UNI
