‘Reformative measures afoot to revamp,
restructure LMD for consumers’ benefit’
JAMMU, NOVEMBER 30: Minister for Food, Civil
Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Tribal Affairs, Chowdhary
Zulfkar Ali, today said that numerous reformative measures are underway to
revamp and restructure LMD as a vibrant unit to ensure welfare of state’s
consumer fraternity.
The Minister said this while addressing a
gathering after inaugurating newly constructed building of Office of
Controller, Legal Metrology Department cum Secondary Standard Laboratory (SSL)
at Narwal which has been constructed with a cost of Rs 1.75 crore. He
appreciated JKHB for completing the project within the stipulated time line of
nine months.
The Minister said that the Government is
working with a missionary vision for transforming the development scenario of
the state with focus on expediting development, ensuring good governance and
providing corruption free administration.
The Minister expressed hope that with
the establishment of working standard laboratories at Kathua, Akhnoor,
Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Kupwara besides R&D Lab at Srinagar and Gold
Testing Machine at Narwal, Jammu the consumers would get enhanced services with
added efficiency and transparency. He said the present dispensation is working
earnestly towards creating a conducive and comfortable atmosphere for its
employees so that they deliver the best to the public.
While sharing vision for the Legal Metrology
Department, the Minister said that the government is focusing on making Legal
Metrology Department a vibrant unit for larger interest of consumers of the
State.
Highlighting the achievements of the
department under the present dispensation, Zulfkar Ali said that unprecedented
strides towards development have been achieved like NFSA, digitalization of
public distribution system and inclusion of left out beneficiaries under
different schemes. Besides, government has amended recruitment rules for LMD
Gazetted services besides creating an independent post of Controller Legal
Metrology. He applauded the efforts of the department in protecting the rights
of consumers and raising awareness among them despite shortage of
infrastructural facilities.
Referring to importance of strict adherence to
prescribed laws and Acts for better service delivery, the Minister urged upon
all stakeholders for rendering voluntary compliance to these provisions. He
also instructed the officers and officials of the department to keep a strict
monitoring over implementation of such provisions.
