Handloom and Handicraft Corporations will undertake an audit of its commercial
operations, to review the viability of its current operations, besides
identifying shortcomings for improvement to increase market outreach and
prospects for state arts.
Disclosing this, Vice Chairman Nizamuddin Bhat said that present
Government has taken a serious note of recession in the business of Handicrafts
and Handloom and is highly concerned to ameliorate the lot of artisans,
craftsmen and employees.
Bhat said Handloom and Handicrafts boards have already asked the
management to re-evaluate assets spread across India and ascertain the status
of each centre and viability of the manpower engaged at these centres.
Instructions have been passed to the management to make business promotion
centers fully functional and regularly monitor the production and manufacturing
ends, he added. He said, in this connection, the targeted implementation of
various schemes from central Handloom Corporations, textiles Ministry and
Ministry of the Human Resources assume greater significance.
Bhat said Industries Ministry has taken measures to promote
Handicrafts and Handloom through trainings, exposure visits, marketing support
and exhibitions.
