KULGAM, NOVEMBER 21: The District
Development Commissioner, Kulgam Talat Parvez today inaugurated a day-long
seminar on livelihood avenues here at DC office complex.
The seminar organized by Department of NRLM was attended by
district officers of line departments including Agriculture, Horticulture,
Sheep Husbandry, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Handicrafts, Fisheries, KVIB
and Lead Bank, besides unemployed women SHGs.
The schemes and opportunities available under NRLM for
livelihood generation for unemployed youth and SHG under UMEED programme were
discussed threadbare. In addition, a brief introduction of JK State Rural
Livelihood Mission was given.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that district
administration is implementing various flagship schemes to improve agriculture
sector. The sole aim of today's seminar is to uplift the poor by providing them
employment opportunities available at their doorsteps, he added.
The seminar was informed that the convergence which took place
between target groups and different line departments in NRLM including Sheep
Husbandry, Handicrafts and Animal Husbandry has received as many as 320
applications for starting their ventures in the current financial year.
The
seminar was also attended by Additional District Development Commissioner Khaja
Nazir Ahmad besides the Chief Planning Officer Kulgam and other district level
officers.
