‘Steps being taken
to augment potable water supply in all parts of JK’
Jammu, November 25: Minister for
Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli and Minister for PHE
and Irrigation Sham Lal Chaudhary on Saturday inaugurated a
Water Supply Scheme (WSS) at Mayari Kalakote in Rajouri district. The scheme is
being constructed at a cost of Rs1.5 crore under NDRWP and will benefit -2000
souls of Mayari Village and its adjacent areas.
With the inauguration of the scheme, a much awaited dream project came true for
the residents of Mayari who had to walk miles to fetch drinking water. The
residents thanked the government for fulfilling the long pending demand of the
residents and gave a rousing reception to the Ministers by showering flower
petals on the minister and performed traditional Bangra to welcome the
minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Kohli said that Government is committed to
provide all basic amenities like adequate Drinking Water, Power, Education,
Healthcare Facilities and other civic facilities to the people of all the three
regions of the State especially the people living in remote and hilly areas.
He said the directions have already been passed to the concerned for
identification of habitations who have not been provided drinking water
facilities so far and also they were asked to prepare Detailed Project Reports
(DPRs) in this regard and submit the same to the Government for accord of necessary
arrangement of funds.
On the occasion
Minister Sham Lal Choudhary said that funds, is not a problem with regard to
the projects regarding supply of pure drinking water but, he said, need is to
identify the projects and start works. He said it is the responsibility of the
concerned officers and engineer to conduct field survey and project plans on
priority. Referring to the developmental works under execution in Kalakote
Constituency, the Minister said that the construction of various developmental
projects are apace and on completion of these schemes it will change the
socio-economic conditions of the people of the area.
During the tour, the Ministers also inspected Filtration Plant, Chainpur and
asked the concerned to redouble their efforts and ensure adequate drinking
water facilities to the people of the area.
Earlier, both the Ministers attended large public gathering at Dak Bungalow
Kalakote and said that Kalakote Constituency will be developed on modern lines.
They said in this regard several initiatives have been taken and some are in
pipe line.
They said that efforts are afoot to improve the socio-economic conditions of
the people of the area and several welfare schemes have been launched and
appealed the people to take advantage of these.
On the occasion, local people projected charter of demands which included
construction and up-gradation of road net work of Kalakote Constituency. The
Ministers gave them patient hearing and assured them that their genuine demands
will be looked into.
