Visits Zojila to take stock of snow clearance,
traffic movement
KARGIL, NOVEMBER 21: Chairman
Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali inaugurated the office of Deputy
SP Traffic Kargil, Leh districts here today.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Kargil,
Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan and Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, TseringGyalpo
besides other district officers were also present on the occasion.
The newly inaugurated office is functioning inside
the office of the Manager District Industries Center, Kargil and has been
started following the rise in number of vehicles besides to facilitate the
regulation of traffic on NH 1D from Zero Point Zojila Pass up to Sarchu near
Himachal Pradesh border in Leh especially during the winter months. The new
traffic office shall be manned by Deputy SP Traffic and two District Traffic
Inspectors— one each at Kargil and Leh along with supporting
staff.
Meanwhile, the people have appreciated this move of
the Government and have expressed hope that the step will go a long way in
facilitating the smooth regulation of traffic in the twin districts.
Later, the Chairman also visited Zojila Pass on the
NH 1D to take stock of the snow clearance work and traffic movement between
Srinagar and Kargil districts. He personally monitored the movement of light
and heavy vehicles from Srinagar to Kargil. The Chairman while inquiring about
the road improvement work post fresh snowfall stressed upon the officers of
Vijayak, BRO, traffic police Kargil-Leh and Sonamarg to take all possible
measures to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted movement of vehicles over the
Zojila Pass and adjoining stretch so that the passengers do not face any
inconvenience.
Enroute to Zojila, the Chairman visited Shimsha and
Thasgam area and took first and appraisal of public grievances and demands. The
deputationists projected several demands that included construction of link
road from NH 1D to Chumik Grong Shimsha, repair of water supply scheme and
construction of snow check dam in the area, inclusion of Thasgam as a separate
block, up gradation of high school to higher secondary school, provision of
distance scholarship in favour of the students besides other related demands.
Responding to the demands, the Chairman assured the
delegations that all of their genuine demands would be considered on priority
and steps for its redressal would be taken soon.
