Agartala,
Nov 17: CPI-M state committee urged election commission of India (ECI) to
hold Tripura assembly elections on or before second week of February next year.
They urged the ECI to initiate action against BJP leaders including the central ministers and it’s state chief for provocation of communal politics.Meeting with the visiting team of ECI led by Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain, CPI-M representatives last night alleged that BJP rank and file was openly threatening to defer the election, which is considered to be an encroachment into the privileges of ECI.The CPI-M leader Haripada Das pointed out that they apprised the commission about the slandering of BJP against the ruling party and asking for central intervention to ensure free and fair elections and said, “Tripura has the record of maximum turnout in the election and there was no instance of communal violence but this time BJP is trying to do it.”“We have asked representatives from the Election Commission to conduct the election within second week of February next year. We also apprised them about the claim of BJP president Biplab Deb that any vote cast for any political party would be credited to the BJP candidate,” Das said.Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Dr Ashok Sinha said that they had complained about presence of fake voters in electoral rolls of the state and urged the commission to hold election only after special summary revision of the electoral roll exclusively by the ECI leaving away the state government employees.“There is a huge presence of fake voters including Bangladeshi nationals in the electoral rolls of the state. Tripura is the only state where the government becomes a part of such forgery. We have asked the ECI representatives to hold a fresh summary revision of electoral rolls in the state before announcing the schedule,” Sinha said. The state’s electoral roll has still been undergoing summary revision and claims and objections will be entertained till November 30 and final voters list is scheduled to be published on Dec 5 next. The ECI team arrived here yesterday to take stock of preparedness for the forthcoming assembly election in Tripura,Besides, meeting with recognized political parties, they held meeting with the election officials.
