Delhi, Nov 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open on November 3 the
first-ever International World Food India 2017 three-day event here that will
see the participation of more than 30 food giant companies from over 40
countries including USA, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Denmak, Japan, Germany,
Netherlands, Italy and UAE.
As much as $10 billion of foreign direct investment with the potential to create one million jobs has been committed in the food processing sector. The new partnerships and joint ventures will work towards doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
``The time has come for Brand India to take the world by storm,’’ said Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal at a curtain raiser press conference here. With a leg up for the food processing sector, the country will move towards reducing farm gate wastage.
Japan, Germany and Denmark will be the partner countries and Italy and Netherlands shall be the focus countries. Twelve states will be the partner states and eight will be the focus states to showcase their potential from ``farm to fork’’ at the mega event.
On the occasion, the Food and Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) –the apex regulatory body for food safety—will launch a “Food Regulatory Portal” which will convey transparency in food safety laws in the country as part of ``doing ease of business” plan of the government. The portal will be strategically aligned with the government’s mission of “One Nation, One Food Law”.
``The intention is to raise processed food from 10 per cent of the total produce to 30 per cent in two to three years with value addition to farmers’ produce,’’ Ms. Badal said.
It is expected that several memoranda of understanding and joint-ventures will be finalized at the event which will provide a platform for world leaders in the food business to meet and show case what India has to offer. India, sources said, was ready to showcase ``the ease of doing business’’ in the country. Each state will showcase what it has to offer.
So far nine mega food parks have been set up. Three more are ready to take off, the minister said.
Well known chef Sanjeev Kapoor will try to create a world record by preparing 800 kilogram of “Brand India Khichdi” as India’s nutritious cuisine which will be distributed to 60,000 underprivileged people.
Taking a dig at the previous government, Minister of State for Food Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said, ``the previous government had only cooked political Khichdi but our government is giving Khichdi to the poor.’’ UNI
