Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: Keeping pace with the new technological advancement, the students should always make all out efforts to learn new skills, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said. Addressing the 13th convocation of KIIT University here, Mr Naidu said the students must inculcate the habit of learning new skills, acquiring new knowledge as these are key to success in one’s life and vital in today’s knowledge economy. The Vice President advised the students to be grateful to their gurus and at the same time, they should not forget their mother, mother tongue and mother land. He said, there is nothing wrong in learning English, Hindi or French but the students should also be proficient in their mother tongue as it is the language of soul.
India has a great heritage and “you should feel proud as inheritors of the great Indian culture, Mr Naidu said adding that unity in diversity being rooted to our culture are important for integrity of our country” The Vice President said Convocation is an occasion of celebration and glory. It is also an occasion of looking forward to the future. He advised students to develop the ability to adapt to the rapidly changing work environment and strive to be the best in their chosen fields.  .”Now we are in the era of LPG (Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation). Hence, unless students upgrade their skills, they cannot face competition,” he remarked.
Odisha Governor S C Jamir who graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour said the standard of a University is judged from the quality of its alumni, KIIT, he said has an illustrious alumni body and is weaving an effective global network for knowledge, skill and cultural exchange. He advised students to work hard, be persistent as well as accommodating, be innovative and entrepreneurial, and to use technology to solve societal problems.  The University honoured three eminent personalities from different walks of life with D.Litt. Honoris Causa degrees. They are Padma Vibhushan Shilpi Guru Dr. Raghunath Mohapatra, Eminent Sculptor, Dr. Bithal Das Mundhra, Chairman Emeritus, Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. and Kishanlal Agarwal, Chairman, Bhartia Charitable Trust
. KIIT Chancellor Dr. Subrat Kumar Acharya, said the University is the result of the exemplary vision and passion of a single individual- Prof. Achyuta Samanta - who believed in the mission of ‘Poverty eradication through education & the principle of art–of–giving’. UNI
