New Delhi, Nov 3: The Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court that no criminal action would be taken against those petitioners who were holding old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations till further hearing in the case in connection with the demonetisation issue.
The apex court three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud was hearing a petition filed by one Sudha Mishra.
She, in her petition, sought that she should be allowed to deposit the old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations after the due date given by the Centre.
Sudha in the petition sought an intervention and a direction from the apex court to the Central Government for those petitioners (who moved the Apex court), who couldn't deposit their old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 money in the stipulated time. UNI
