Nov 10: The National People’s Party has released its first list of
candidates, comprising 24 names, for the Meghalaya Assembly elections, slated
to be held early next year. Names of former Union Minister Agatha Sangma (South Tura), former Meghalaya
Rajya Sabha member Thomas Sangma (North Tura), and sitting legislators James
Sangma (Dadengre) and Nihim Shira (Songsak), figured in the first list. The NPP also cleared the names of former Deputy Chief Minister Timothy D Shira
from Resubelpara, former Deputy Speaker and current member of the Khasi Hills
Autonomous District Council Hispreaching Son Shylla (Nongkrem), two former
ministers F W Momin (Mendipathar) and Manirul Islam Sarkar (Phulbari), former
MLA Marcuise N Marak (Williamnagar). The list also include Wailadmiki Shylla, brother-in-law of rebel Congress
legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar, and Dasakhiatbha Lamare, son of another rebel
Congress legislator Ngaitlang Dhar.Lawanpynshngain K War, son of late legislator Kitdor Syiem, will contest from
Mairang. NPP has also fielded former government official FCA Sangma to contest
from Selsella. UNI
