Lucknow, Nov 22: Around 20 per cent of the 1 point 09 crore
electorate on Wednesday exercised their franchise till 1130 hrs in the first
phase of Uttar Pradesh civic polls amid reports of minor incidents of violence
and malfunctioning of EVMs.
State Election Commission officials claimed that the polling was
peaceful. The state Director-General of Police (DGP) office here said no untoward
incident was reported from anywhere in the poll-bound 24 districts so far. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was among the first to vote in Gorakhpur, while
senior BJP leader Vijay Katiyar exercised his right to franchise in Ayodhya. However, two senior politicians in Unnao, were upset when they found their
names missing from the voters' list. BJP MP from Unnao Sakshi Maharaj and
previous Congress MP Anu Tandon had to go back without voting because their
names were not in the voters’ list. Unnao District Magistrate has taken the
matter seriously and ordered suspension of booth level officer (BLO).UNI
