Patna, Nov10: Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today demanded constitution of a new commission to look into details on how to  provide reservation benefits to those who could not get it so far and also whether there is any scope for increasing the upper limit of quota in government services from existing 50 to 60 percent in prevailing scenario.
Mr Sinha while addressing a seminar on socio - economic condition of deprived  section of the society here, said it was really pathetic to note that even after 67 years of our constitution coming into force, reservation was still a sensitive issue and deprived section were still struggling for their rights. Reservation for  Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in government services  was among main provision of the constitution while Mandal Commission was constituted to look into needs of reservation for backwards, he added.
" Central government should constitute a commission to look afresh how to provide reservation benefits to those who could not get it so far", BJP leader said adding that it was important to know whether benefits of reservation being given yielded desired result. The upper limit of reservation in government services was 50 percent but it was applied in Tamil Nadu as there was more than 50 percent reservation in the state when cap was enforced, he said adding that the new commission should also look the possibility to increase reservation limit to 60 percent.
Mr Sinha said that reservation in promotion should also be given to deprived lot in government services. With fast changing scenario, more jobs in private sector were being created which should also be looked into, he said adding that steps should be taken to frame law for giving reservation benefits even in corporate sector. UNI
