Patna, Mar 22 :  Roads, railway stations, bus stands across Bihar wore a deserted look on Sunday with people voluntarily staying indoors in view of the 'janata curfew' call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

Buses were not plying on city roads as the administration had already taken a decision to stop city bus service, besides inter-district and inter-state services till March 31.

Except police personnel and few passersby, one could hardly find anyone on the streets.

"We need to be more alert and cautious in our fight to curb the spread of coronavirus. We must keep ourselves confined to our homes for the next few days. This is how we can break the chain," said Ravi Kumar, a resident of Sri Krishna Nagar, Patna.

Bihar reported its first death due to COVID-19 on Sunday, as a man with a travel history to Qatar died at the AIIMS here, hospital superintendent CM Singh said.

"I think that people have understood the gravity of the situation and hence they must have patience to remain indoors as it is in our interest," said Jitendra Kumar Srivastava, a resident of Chandni Chowk area of Muzaffarpur.

The prime minister had on March 19 proposed the 'janta curfew' between 7 am and 9 pm on Sunday as part of social distancing, saying the world has never seen a danger as grave as this.

Of the four Bihar-bound trains which began their journey from Pune and Mumbai on Saturday, two trains have reached Danapur in Patna on Sunday morning while another two trains will reach Patna on Monday.

The government has made arrangements for getting all the train passengers screened, officials said.

Patna, July 06  :   Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on Saturday after he appeared before a court here in a defamation case filed by BJP leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, days after a Mumbai court held that the Congress leader would face trial for alleged slander against the RSS.

Gandhi alleged that he was being targeted for raising his voice against the Narendra Modi government and the BJP-RSS combine, and vowed to continue his fight.

The Congress leader, who recently resigned as party president, surrendered before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kumar Gunjan, who is the judge for special MPs and MLAs court here, and was granted bail.

Sushil Modi's counsel, Shambhu Prasad, said the court fixed August 8 as the next date of hearing in the case.

"We did not oppose his bail. The court explained to him the accusation against him and asked whether he pleaded guilty," Prasad told PTI. "The respondent replied in the negative and the matter was posted for further hearing on August 8."

Before leaving the court premises, Gandhi told a swarm of reporters waiting for a sound byte that he would continue to fight for the country's poor.

"I am committed to fighting for the country's poor, farmers and workers. I have come here to express my solidarity with them," he said. "Whoever is raising his voice against the Modi government, against the BJP-RSS combine is being targeted through court cases. But my fight will continue."

Earlier in the day, Gandhi said he would appear the court for a case filed by his "political opponents" in the BJP-RSS to "harass and intimidate" him.

Gandhi was slapped with the defamation suit by Sushil Modi in April for his remark: "why all thieves have the surname Modi?".

The comment was an obvious reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, absconding bank-fraud accused Nirav Modi and former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi. The deputy chief minister had moved the court alleging that he was personally anguished by Gandhi's remarks since he shared the same surname.

The former Congress chief's appearance in the Patna court comes two days after he and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, pleaded not guilty in a Mumbai court in another defamation case filed against them by an RSS worker.

Upon arrival at the airport, Gandhi was received by senior leaders, including state Congress president Madan Mohan Jha. He drove straight to the court premises, around seven kilometres away.

The court premises was cordoned off by the police since morning following a review of security arrangements by the Special Protection Group on the previous day.

Scores of Congress workers were seen staging a demonstration outside the court premises demanding that Gandhi withdraw his resignation from the post of the party president, a step he took owning moral responsibility for the Lok Sabha poll debacle.

Some of the demonstrators claimed that if Gandhi remained adamant, they would self-immolate outside the historic Sadaqat Ashram here, where the state Congress headquarters are located.

This was the Congress leader's first visit to the city after the Lok Sabha election. He was last seen here in May when he held a roadshow in support of Patna Sahib party candidate Shatrughan Sinha.

Patna, June 24 :  Super 30 founder and noted mathematician Anand Kumar told a gathering at Cambridge University on Tuesday that education is the best bet to beat poverty and help build an egalitarian society by giving the deserving their due and rewarding merit.

Speaking at the UK-Asia Summit organised at Cambridge University, where he once dreamt of studying but could not make it due to poverty, Anand said it was an occasion that had overwhelmed him, as it had brought back the old memories as a young student aspiring to be there.

"Today, if I am here, only because of education.

Education has the power to usher in a silent revolution and bring about generational change. It is the best bet to beat poverty and help build an egalitarian society by giving the deserving their due and rewarding merit," he told the gathering, a Super 30 statement.

Anand also shared his experiences with the making of the movie that revolves round his pioneering initiative in helping students from deprived class crack IIT examination.

He said film set to be released on July 12, was not just a biopic on a simple man like him, but it broached a much larger issue.

"In the end, the difference between the privileged and underprivileged is only of opportunity. If all get equal opportunity to quality education, India will move ahead faster, he said, citing the examples of his students from modest background working in US firms.

Anand said that Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan had shown remarkable character playing his role as a teacher. and director Vikas Bahl took care of the minutest of details to capture the essence, visiting remote villages to talk to the family members of the students to get a feel of the real-life situation.

Anand said that he was from Bihar, a state of India that was once known for its glorious tradition in the field of education with institutions like Nalanda University and Vikramshila, but later slipped at the bottom of the ladder on virtually all parameters of human index.

"Education is the way forward to turn the tide and efforts are on in that direction. If my initiative can work as an inspiration for some, it will make my life meaningful," he added.

Giving examples of several students who overcame adversities to scrip success stories by dint of their sheer passion to excel and hard work at Super 30, Anand dwelt on the nearly two-decade old journey of Super 30, how the pangs of poverty made him start the initiative and the problems that he had to face along the way.

Super 30 has so far helped nearly 540 students from the underprivileged sections of the society successfully chase the IIT dream with unmatched passion. It has ushered in a silent social revolution through mainstreaming of children belonging to the underprivileged sections of the society by empowering them with year-long residential mentoring for admission to IITs.

This year too, 18 of its students have cracked Jee Advance to qualify for admission in different IITs.

Started in 2002, meritorious wards of rickshaw puller, farm labourer, housemaid and other deprived sections of society are provided free fooding, lodging and education to help them make big in life by clearing admission test for IIT.                                           [Agencies]

Patna, Oct 4: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged the 15th Finance Commission to grant extra central assistance to the state citing its progress with the help of its own limited resources.

Making a presentation before the commission headed by its Chairman N K Singh Wednesday, Kumar also expressed disapproval of the doing away with the distinction between general and special category states.

"The removal of such a distinction is a paradox which the 15th Finance Commission should look into," Kumar was quoted as saying in an official release.

Kumar also demanded greater central assistance to the state for disaster management, underscoring that Bihar was ravaged by floods annually on account of overflowing rivers originating in neighbouring Nepal.

"Seventy per cent of the state's area gets affected by floods. In 2017, the state had to spend Rs 2,400 crore in providing relief to the affected families. The central help was of only Rs 500 crore. It needs to be increased", he said.

He also expressed displeasure over states having to make contributions towards centrally sponsored schemes and requested for funds to meet development needs like schools and infrastructure for Panchayati Raj institutions.

Observing that forest cover is being taken into account during allocation of funds by the Centre, the chief minister said, "We had set up a Hariyali Mission to increase the forest cover which has risen to 15 per cent from mere seven per cent in 2000 when Jharkhand was carved out."

Kumar was interacting with the commission in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who holds the finance portfolio, and top officials like Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar and Principal Secretary, Finance, Sujata Chaturvedi.

The commission also held interactions with representatives of various political parties, Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhury and RJD leader and former state finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui.

It was also presented with a joint memorandum of political parties and academic/professional organisations drafted by city-based think tank Asian Development Research Organisation (ADRI).

The memorandum, among other things, suggested a new formula for devolution of funds which could "help Bihar and other backward states to overcome the development backlog and contribute to the overall prosperity of the country".

New Delhi, Sep 18: The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed a Patna High Court order asking the CBI special director to set up a fresh team to probe Muzaffarpur shelter home sexual abuse case.

Patna High Court had on August 29 ordered that a fresh team of investigators be constituted by the Special Director of CBI in the case in which incidents of alleged rape and sexual assault of women inmates over a period of time had come to light in an NGO-run shelter home at Muzaffarpur.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta said changing the CBI team at this stage will be detrimental to the ongoing investigation.

Attorney General K K Venugopal told the court that the existing probe team carrying out investigation was set up by the CBI director on July 30.

"We don't see any reason why the existing CBI team, probing the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, should be changed at this stage," the apex court said.

Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the shelter home run by Brajesh Thakur, the chief of a state-funded NGO. The alleged sexual exploitation of the girls was first highlighted in an audit report submitted by TISS to the state's social welfare department.

The top court also asked the probe agency to place before it the two status reports of probe in the case which were filed earlier before the Patna High Court and listed the matter for further hearing on September 20.

An FIR was lodged against 11 people, including Thakur, on May 31. The probe has been taken over by the CBI.

The incidents of alleged rape and sexual assault of the women inmates had come to light after a social audit was conducted by the Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Ranchi/Patna, Sep 4: Jailed RJD president Lalu Prasad has put in a request that he be shifted to another ward at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where he is currently admitted, citing poor hygiene, mosquito menace and barking by stray dogs, a close aide of the former chief minister said.

RJD lawmaker and national general secretary Bhola Yadav told PTI on Monday that an application has been submitted to the director of the RIMS hospital, where Prasad is admitted, with the plea that he be moved to the 100-bed paying ward, which at present has only three patients.

"We have cited the reasons also for making such a request. The waste pipe of a toilet close to his ward is clogged, emitting foul smell. This imperils the health of our leader who suffers from infections," Yadav, a close confidant of the RJD chief, said.

Yadav, who has been beside the RJD supremo for most of the time since he was sent to jail in December last year, said the lack of hygiene also leads to the menace of mosquitoes which is another potential health risk, "especially in the rainy season. Besides there is also the problem of excessive noises."

"The post-mortem house is nearby which attracts a large number of stray dogs. Their barks and howls is a nuisance and cause immense discomfort to the septuagenarian," the RJD MLA said.

The MLA also said that being a diabetic, Prasad needs to go for regular walks but the location of the cardiology department ward where he is lodged is "not suitable" for that.

"We have, therefore, requested that he be shifted to the paying ward, which is newly built and comparatively more clean and tidy. We hope the authorities will not have a problem with that since we are ready to pay the room rent and other charges. We did that when Lalu ji was admitted to AIIMS earlier this year," Yadav stated.

After spending a few months out of the jail, the RJD supremo surrendered before a CBI court in Ranchi on August 30 upon the expiry of the provisional bail granted to him by the Jharkhand High Court for medical treatment.

The former Bihar chief minister had recently undergone a fistula operation at a Mumbai hospital. A heart patient, he is also said to be suffering from kidney ailments.

Meanwhile, the RJD supremo's expression of discomfort at the Ranchi hospital has drawn snide remarks from the ruling JD(U) in Bihar.

"Now you have begun to fear dogs and mosquitoes. The people of Bihar had feared a lot while you were in power," JD(U) MLC and spokesman Neeraj Kumar tweeted, alluding to the crime rate during the 15-year-long rule by Prasad and, subsequently, his wife Rabri Devi for which the RJD has been drawing flak over the years.

Kumar said that he was deeply distressed and saddened by the tragic loss of lives and large scale damage to properties caused by the incessant rains that have been lashing the southern state for the past few days.

No one knows better than the people of Bihar about the miseries caused by natural calamities during flood. I am sending a small contribution of Rs 10 crore from Chief Ministers Relief Fund, Bihar, for relief and rehabilitation works in the flood affected areas, Kumar wrote in a letter addressed to his Kerala counterpart Pinnari Vijayan.

I believe that under your able guidance and leadership, the people of Kerala would recover soon from the losses that they have suffered. I am confident the strength and resilience of the people of Kerala will carry the state through this catastrophe, Kumar added.

In the rain-battered Kerala, a total of 194 people have lost their lives so far.

Patna, Aug 1: Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik has shot off letters to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, terming the alleged sexual abuse of minor girls at a shelter home in Muzaffarpur as "heart-rending" and suggested measures for preventing recurrence of such incidents in the future.

According to highly-placed sources today, the governor has called for trial of cases relating to harassment of girls, boys and women living in such state-funded homes by fast track courts.

Malik has also written to Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Rajendra Menon in this regard.

The governor has, however, praised the state government for its quick action in the Muzaffarpur incident and its decision to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the sources said.

The case relates to mental, physical and sexual exploitation of the girls residing at Balika Grih, Muzaffarpur.

In his second letter to the chief minister, Malik has called for immediate and intensive probe into reports of mismanagement of other such short stay homes that have appeared in the media of late and a mechanism for their continued monitoring, they said.

Malik has also stressed the need for developing an institutional mechanism which ensures that social audit, by competent institutions, of these shelter homes takes place on a permanent basis, the sources said.

He has also called for implementation of recommendations of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai in this regard, they said.

The governor has asked the chief minister, whom he called an "efficient administrator" and a popular leader known for taking initiative in such matters, to invite suggestions from the intelligentsia, the sources added.

The matter had come to light earlier this year when the Bihar Social Welfare Department filed an FIR based on a social audit of the shelter home conducted by TISS.

The audit report stated that many girls at the shelter home had complained of sexual abuse. A special investigation team was formed to probe the complaints.

The NGO running the shelter home in Muzaffarpur was blacklisted and the girls were shifted to shelter homes in Patna and Madhubani.

Patna, Jul 26: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recommended today a CBI inquiry into the alleged sexual exploitation of girls at a state-funded shelter home in Muzaffarpur district.

Terming the incident "deplorable", the decision to handover the case to the CBI was taken to prevent rumour-mongering in the state, an official release said.

Medical examinations of 29 of the 42 shelter home inmates confirmed that they were sexually exploited, state Director General of Police K S Dwivedi had said.

"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has directed the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Principal Secretary (Home) to immediately hand over the case to the CBI," it said.

"A deplorable incident has taken place in Muzaffarpur, where the police has been carrying out a diligent investigation.

Although the government was committed to conducting an impartial probe, the decision for handing over the probe to the CBI has been taken to dispel the 'bhram ka vatavaran' (environment of rumours) that was being created," the release said.

Opposition parties in the state, while demanding a CBI inquiry, had alleged that the state government was baulking at handing over the matter to the central agency as it wanted to "shield" some of the key accused who were said to be close to the ruling dispensation.

Patna, July 21: The Aam Aadmi Party today said that the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was cutting a "sorry figure" as he was being made to "beg" before the BJP for a respectable share of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and urged the JD(U) president to do a rethink on his return to the the NDA.

The party's Bihar in-charge Sanjay Singh also attacked the Narendra Modi government for trying to "fool" the people of the state by claiming that money spent on national highways passing through the state were part of a special package for Bihar.

He also charged the Prime Minister with failure to give due respect to leaders from the state who had allied with him.

Nitish Kumar had betrayed the mandate of 2015 assembly polls by walking out of the Grand Alliance and returning to the BJP-led NDA. But, today he is cutting a sorry figure. He is begging before the BJP for a respectable seat-sharing arrangement, Singh said.

And ever since his return to the NDA, his image of a good administrator has taken a beating with crimes against women having become a routine affair, added the member of AAP's political affairs committee.

Singh said the BJP was busy describing the current political situation in the country as Modi vs all and was reluctant to acknowledge the role of its allies.

While being photographed, Modi likes the entire focus to be on himself. He feels uncomfortable sharing the space with Nitish Kumar and Union ministers like Ram Vilas Paswan. It is traits like these, besides the vindictiveness of which we have been at the receiving end in Delhi, that makes AAP feel that BJP has to be fought and defeated, Singh said.

We are appalled to hear that the Modi government is of the view that money spent on national highways and other similar projects which cover other states also, are being dished out as part of a special package, he said.

It should cover only some specific demands of the people conveyed by the state government. The Modi government is cheating the people of Bihar. It is high time that Nitish Kumar did a rethink on his political collaboration, he added.

The AAPs in-charge of Bihar also alleged that BJP leaders in the state had indulged in irregular land transactions on a huge scale prior to demonetization.

He also distributed copies of one such alleged transaction in Begusarai district where a piece of disputed land was bought by BJP leaders.

One of the claimants to the land was brought to the press meet where he alleged that he was being pressurized by BJP leaders to give up his claim on the land to facilitate its transfer in favour of the party, which wanted to build its office there.

Patna, July 17: The Bihar Cabinet today approved a proposal to increase the compensation amount for rape and acid attack victims in the state to Rs 7 lakh from the existing Rs 3 lakh, a top official said.

Cabinet Secretariat Department's Special Secretary Upendra Nath Pandey said the decision to give nod to the 'Bihar Victim Compensation (Amendment) Scheme 2018', proposed by the law department, was taken in view of directions issued by the Union Home Ministry following the Supreme Court's judgement delivered in February 2016 in this regard.

Last month, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Centre jointly drew up a relief policy for rape and acid attack women victims offering minimum compensation amount of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7 lakh, respectively.

The Centre had asked all states to devise the compensation amount accordingly.

"The amendment to the Bihar Victim Compensation Scheme, 2014, had become imperative on account of amendment to the Centre's compensation scheme after the apex court judgement," Pandey explained.

"According to the new scheme, the compensation amount has been increased from the current Rs 3 lakh to Rs 7 lakh for the rape and acid attack victims in the state," he said adding that the amount can be increased by 50 per cent over and above Rs 7 lakh if the victim is below the age of 14 years.

In case of acid attack victims, the scheme has a provision of giving Rs 10,000 per month as compensation for life or a period considered proper by the District Crime Compensation Board if the victim has lost 80 per cent of her eyesight or face has been disfigured up to 80 per cent. However, in no case, the amount can exceed Rs 10,000 per month, the officer said.

The district legal service authority would take a final call on giving compensation amount to acid attack victims, Pandey said.

The Cabinet, in today's meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also approved two bills which would be tabled in the five-day monsoon session of the state legislature beginning July 20, the officer said but refused to divulge the details of the bills.

Patna, July 13: A court here has convicted two woman teachers of a renowned English-medium school for "unnatural sexual act" with a five-year-old girl student.

The order was passed yesterday by Special POCSO judge Ravindra Nath Tripathi, who fixed July 20 as the date for deciding the quantum of sentence for Nutan Joseph and Indu Anand.

Special Public Prosecutor Suresh Chandra Prasad said the two women have been held guilty under relevant sections of the IPC as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Joseph and Anand were arrested in November, 2016, after the girl's parents lodged a complaint against them at Mahila Thana here. According to the FIR, the parents had said that the two teachers asked their 5-year-old girl to undress in a classroom and then sexually assaulted her.

A medical test conducted on the minor also confirmed the assault.

Patna, Jul 12: BJP national president Amit Shah today had a brief meeting with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over breakfast, during which the two leaders are understood to have discussed the prevailing political situation in view of the Lok Sabha polls due next year.

Shah arrived here from Ranchi this morning and was given a warm welcome at the airport by BJP workers and senior leaders, including party state president Nityanand Rai.

This is the BJP chief's first visit to the state since the dramatic political realignment of last year when Kumar, the JD(U) national president, walked out of the Grand Alliance which included the RJD and the Congress, and returned to the NDA.

Refusing to take queries from journalists, Shah drove straight to the state guest house where he met Kumar, in presence of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, BJP's national general secretary in-charge for Bihar Bhupendra Yadav and Rai, over a simple breakfast of "poha", Bihari dishes made of "sattu", fruits, lassi and buttermilk.

Shah is scheduled to hold meetings with party functionaries during his day-long visit and meet Kumar again over dinner before retiring for the day.

The BJP chief's visit to Bihar and his interactions with Kumar is expected to bring about a broad understanding between the saffron party and the JD(U) over the issue of seat-sharing for the Lok Sabha polls.

Patna, Jul 5: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said that the new building bylaws will get the state cabinet's nod by the end of this month.

In order to make housing available to all by 2022, the state government has decided to extend the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) by 15 per cent to builders by amending the 'Affordable Housing and Slum Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Housing Policy', Sushil Modi said.

He said this while addressing the national executive meeting of Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI), which is the apex body of private Real Estate developers across the country.

Stating that builders have been given big relief under Ashrya Nidhi, he said that builders will now have to deposit Rs 1 lakh, Rs 4 lakh and Rs 8 lakh for 500, 2000 and 4000 square meter land respectively against the earlier amount of Rs 10 lakh, Rs 40 lakh and Rs 80 lakh.

Under the new building bylaws, the approval for map for carrying out construction on a plot measuring 300 square meter with building height of up to 10 meters will get immediate approval, said Sushil Modi who is also the state's Finance Minister.

There would be no bar on the height of houses to be built on 30 feet wide old road and 40 feet wide new road given the density of population, he said.

Besides, the state government would also simplify the procedure to realise labour cess from construction companies, the DyCM said.

Patna, Jul 3: RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav has alleged that his Facebook account was "hacked" by the BJP-RSS to create a rift in his family and weaken his party.

"My Facebook account was hacked and recovered with the help of Facebook. BJP supporters have always tried to hack my social media accounts and today they succeeded," he said last night in a post on the social media site.

The former state minister's remarks came almost an hour after a post had appeared on his page suggesting that he was upset with some leaders of his party, including an MLC, and that his parents -- RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and national vice-president Rabri Devi -- were turning a deaf ear to his complaints. The post was deleted by Yadav.

"Upon hacking of my Facebook account they came up with a post aimed at creating a rift within my family and weakening our party Some time ago, an RSS supporter had also hacked the Facebook page of my father," he said in his post.

The post had also claimed that the RJD leader had decided not to contest elections from his assembly constituency and was contemplating retirement from politics.

In an apparent reference to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Yadav, the elder son of Prasad, alleged that the hacking of his Facebook account had the approval of "uncle".

Kumar had walked out of the Grand Alliance comprising the RJD, the JD(U) and the Congress last year and formed a new government with the BJP.

No leader from the ruling JD(U)-BJP combine in the state was available for comments.

Patna, July 2: RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav has said he intended to put up a "no entry" board at his mother's house here for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in line with his partys stand that the door is closed for return of JD(U) president to the Grand Alliance which also comprises Congress.

Reacting to the maverick RJD MLAs deriding remark, JD(U) spokesman and MLC Neeraj Kumar today hit back, saying theirs is a house which is frequently raided by CBI, Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate. Who would like to enter it in the first place?

I wish to put up a board proclaiming No Entry for uncle Nitish Kumar here, at this bungalow, Yadav, elder son of Lalu Prasad, had told reporters yesterday outside the 10, Circular Road residence allotted to his mother and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, a stones throw from the Chief Ministers official residence 1, Anney Marg.

Yadav was replying to queries about the statement made last week by his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav, whom the party has named its Chief Ministerial candidate for the next assembly polls, that the door is closed for Nitish Kumar who is said to be growing uncomfortable in the BJP-led NDA.

Tejashwi Yadav, who is also the leader of the opposition in the state assembly, had made the statement in the backdrop of reports that the RJDs ally in the state, the Congress, was willing to take Kumar back in the alliance upon his breaking ties with the BJP.

Tej Pratap Yadav, whose family has been targeted many times by Sushil Kumar Modi over alleged irregular land transactions, said the Bihar Deputy Chief Minister should sit at home and drink teathe people are going to give him a befitting reply in the next elections.

Replying to a query, the former health minister made it clear I am not going to contest the Lok Sabha polls as I have no desire to move out of Bihar. I will contest the next assembly polls.

When asked about Tej Pratap Yadavs remarks, Neeraj Kumar told PTI the language used by the RJD leader reflects the values he has grown up with. He also seems to be frustrated over having to play second fiddle to his younger brother.

Moreover, his entire family is facing corruption charges.

Theirs is a house which is frequently raided by CBI, Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate. Who would like to enter it in the first place, Kumar said.

Notably, the Grand Alliance had come into being after Nitish Kumar and his arch rival RJD supremo Lalu Prasad sank their differences and joined hands, in the wake of the drubbing received by them in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The three-party alliance swept the assembly elections held a year later, causing the biggest setback to the BJP-led NDAs winning spree. Tejashwi, then just 26 years old, was made the Deputy CM. However, after money laundering cases were lodged against him last year, relations begun to sour between the RJD and Nitish Kumar.

The Chief Minister finally walked out of the alliance in July last year, formed a new government with the BJP and returned to the NDA, which he had quit in 2013 following differences over projection of Narendra Modi, then the Gujarat Chief Minister, as the Prime Ministerial candidate.
