Kolkata, Dec 16: Kolkata International Wildlife and Environment Film Festival (KIWEFF) have been inaugurated by
Magsaysay awardee Dr Prakash Baba Amte.
Along with his wife Dr Mandakini Amte, he joined
an oath taking ceremony where lots of student and audiences read out the
oath to save nature and wildlife.
The inaugural film of the festival was ‘Jungle Book Bear’ by German director Oliver Goetzl and narrated by legendary Sir David Attenborough.
The inauguration ceremony held last evening was attended by actor cum politicians Chiranjit Chkraborty and Sandhya Roy.
Former cricketer Sambaran Banerjee was also present on the occasion.
The festival will premiere Naseeruddin Shah starrer ‘Suryaganga’, a film by American director Valli Bindana.
Sixty six best films on nature, wildlife and social concerns will be screened at the festival.
The festival also had a special screening of ‘Dr.Prakash Baba Amte-The Real Hero’, a Marathi feature film starring Nana Patekar and Sonali Kulkarni as power-couple Amte.
Executive director of the festival, Green Oscar winner Ashwika Kapur was also present at the inaugural ceremony. UNI
