| Offers to support the Girl Child Initiative |
JAMMU, DECEMBER 23: A
delegation of Association for Social Health (ASHI) led by its Sr. Vice
President Ms. Sushma Choudhary, met Governor N.N. Vohra and First Lady Usha
Vohra, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Ms. Sushma Choudhary apprised Governor
and First Lady about the various welfare activities
being carried out by the members of the ASHI for promoting women empowerment,
vocational education and helping the disadvantaged sections of society. The
delegation also informed about the fiscal difficulties being faced by the
Association.
Governor and First
Lady lauded the devoted selfless endeavourss of ASHI members for bettering the
lot of women and girls, particularly those who had been derelicted. Governor
requested Ms. Choudhary and all her colleagues
to spare time for providing counseling to the near 100 girls, children
of Baaridar families and of employees of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine
Board, who were adopted during the one year celebration of the Silver Jubilee
of the establishment of the Shrine Board. He observed that while an amount of
rupees one lakh had been deposited in the name of each girl child, encashable
after she is 18 years old, it is essentially to watch the physical development
and early education of all these girls. And for this purpose reliable help is
required. Ms. Choudhary and her colleagues
agreed to provide the required support.
The delegation
comprised Prof.Ved Kumari Ghai, Prof. Kailash Rajput, Mrs. Seema Khajuria
Shekhar, Prof. Hemla Aggarwal, Prof. Rita Jitendra, Mrs. Nasreen Khan, and Mrs.
Sham Kishori Koul.
