Varanasi, Dec 1 : Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate Mridula Jaiswal registered a stunning victory in the mayoral contest in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Friday.
She won the mayor’s seat by defeating her nearest rival Congress candidate Shalini Yadav by 78,843 votes. 
According to district electoral officer Yogeshwar Ram Misra, the BJP candidate garnered 192,188 votes against Congress party candidate’s 113,345.
Samajwadi Party candidate Sadhna Gupta got 99,272 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Sudha Chaurasiya polled 28,959 votes. UNI
