DDC Shopian reviews progress of dev works

Men, machinery geared up for snow clearance

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 11: - To review the status of physical completion of construction of major projects in district Shopian, a meeting of officers and engineers was held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz Asad here today at Mini Secretariat Arhama Shopian.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer Shopian, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Executive Engineers of R&B, PDD, Irrigation and flood control, PMGYS, PHE, and other concerned officers and officials.

The meeting held a threadbare discussion on bottlenecks hindering the timely execution of these projects and directions were given for expediting the works with better synergy.

The DDC said that the Government is committed for speeding up developmental initiatives in various sectors, and proper up-gradation of existing infrastructure and time-bound implementation of new welfare programmes for achieving the target of overall progress for the district.

Executive Engineer R&B informed the chair that 108 kms of various roads have been macadamized for better proper road connectivity. He also informed that 100 bedded capacity Gujjar & Bakerwal Hostel to be completed within two months.

Executive Engineer PDD informed the meeting that the receiving station Batapora Shopian has been upgraded and is fully functional. 

It was given out that the Choudhary Gund receiving power station will be upgraded from 6.30 MVA to 10 MVA which will further improve the power scenario in the district.

Reviewing the PHE sector, DDC directed the officers of PHE to ensure requisite facilities of clean drinking water for the people of District, especially during the harsh winter days.

On the occasion, the DDC stressed upon concerned officers and engineers to execute the ongoing works within the stipulated timeframe and create durable and tangible assets of public utility for sustainable development. The officers were asked to work with added zeal and dedication and in close coordination for the development of the district.

The DDC also reviewed the state of preparedness for snow clearance. The meeting was informed that men and machinery have been kept ready to meet any eventuality. It was given out that a Snow Clearance control room at the district Mini Secretariat has been established and snow-clearance machinery has been kept in a position of readiness. DDC also checked the duty roster for snow clearance and issued directions for strict adherence to the roster.

On the directions of DDC Tehsildar Shopian visited the yard where snow clearance machinery has been kept in a state of readiness. Tehsildar inspected the yard and has submitted a report that machinery is fully functional and geared up for the purpose of snow clearance.

The DDC further directed the concerned authorities to activate the control rooms and equip them with adequate manpower to cater to the needs of the general public. He sought interdepartmental coordination for effective response to meet out any eventuality in approaching months.
