New Delhi, Dec 19: The BJP on Tuesday flayed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'credibility' in view of Gujarat election results and insisted that in contrary the principal opposition Congress party should do "introspection" as it continues to face defeat in state elections.
"You are losing states after states....you have lost so many states. So it is time for introspection for Congress," BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters countering Mr Gandhi's remarks earlier in the day that the election mandate in Gujarat - where saffron party's tally has come down to 99 from 115 in 2012 - was a "jolt" to the BJP.
He also said the issues of corruption raised against BJP chief Amit Shah's son Jay had no much meaning as Jay Shah's case was totally different from those linked to Robert Vadra, brother-in-law of Congress chief.
"Rahulji has said Modiji has not said anything on Jay Shah case. He need not, we will do that....Jay Shah had only explored an business option and entered commodity business and suffered loss. This was not understood (by Rahul)....Turnover is not profit," Mr Javadekar said adding in the case of Robert Vadra laws of the land were suitably changed to help him garner profit in land deals.
In this connection, he went onto say that the Congress chief should "take tuition from P Chidambaram" to appreciate the basic differences between turnover and profits.
"Jay Shah had tried a new venture and suffered loss," he claimed.
The BJP leader took strong exception to Congress President's comment that Gujarat poll results were "jolt" to the saffron party and said on the contrary "jolt" is to the principal opposition party.
"They are saying this is jolt to BJP, this is actually the new definition of jolt. It requires super mental ability to redefine defeat as a victory," he said.
The Minister insisted contrary to what Rahul Gandhi has said, "Prime Minister's credibility is on rise".
"What they are telling (about jolt to BJP) is insult to people's verdict," he said adding Prime Minister Modi's 'development model' has worked and it has caught the imagination of the people of India.
"The poorer sections of society are today aspirational and their aspiration is of development and therefore they are voting for Modiji,"he said.
The Minister further said the "plank of the poor" which was once with the Congress under Indira Gandhi has ""already shifted" to the BJP. UNI
