New Delhi, Dec 29: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday lashed out at the erstwhile
United Progressive Alliance regime for the staggeringly high Non-Performing
Assets (NPA) figures and said the manner the loans were handed over to
companies by the Congress-led dispensation raises "questions about the
intent.'
Responding to the Lok Sabha debate on The Insolvency and
Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Mr Jaitley asserted that the loans were
given to companies without any security).
He said the figures about NPAs going up came to light only during the National Demoratic Alliance regime not because of the fault of the Narendra Modi government.
"It has come to surface as things you wanted to brush under the carpet has now come out," Mr Jaitley said referring to some of the charges vis-a-vis NPAs from Congress members.
".....dhul jhokte rahen (You kept fooling the people by throwing dust in their eyes)," Mr Jaitley added and tried to give the faulty impression that the NPA figures were low during its rule.
He said what the Manmohan Singh government did with regard to NPAs was like "window dressing".
"You kept ever greening the loan," Mr Jaitley added. UNI
