Chennai, Dec 28: Officials of the Income-Tax department on Thursday raided various premises belonging to jailed leader  V K Sasikala and her close family members.
The searches which commenced last evening, continued for the second day today.
This was for the second time the raids were being held after the authorities searched 187 places belonging to her and her family members a couple of months back following complaints of tax evasion and investment in shell companies.
On Thursday morning, IT officials raided the bank locker of Sasikala’s kin in the city.
About 11 places in Chennai, Trichy and Coimbatore were raided.
This is part of six locations in the city, including Adyar and Tambaram.
A highly-placed source in the I-T Department said 'we are conducting the raids to find the truth behind the source of funds'.
The raids were being held four days after Sasikala's nephew T T V Dhinakaran, bucked the tradition and won the R K Nagar by-election, causing embarrassment to the ruling AIADMK, besides reducing the opposition DMK to the third place and its candidate losing deposit.
On Wednesday, the searches were made at Midas  Distilleries and Sai Group of Companies in Padappai,  the Adyar residence of Karthikeyan, son-in-law of Sasikala's  sister-in-law Ilavarasi, and a college in Coimbatore.
Karthikeyan is also one of the directors of Midas  Distilleries owned by Sasikala. UNI
