Bhubaneswar, Dec18: The Tribal Sports meet 2017 with an objective to search, develop sports talent among the tribals and spread some traditional sports in Odisha was today inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Inaugurating the sports meet at Similiguda in Koraput district, Udala in Mayurbhanja district and Sadar Block of Sundergarh district through video conferencing from here today, the Chief Minister said the tribal children have tremendous sports talent reflected in their culture and livelihood.
The tribal children have already shown their talents in Hockey, Athletics, Archery and also performed well in National Hockey team.
Many Hockey players of the state have become captain of the National Hockey team.
Patnaik hoped that the sports meet would help the tribal people to bring laurels for the state and the country in the national and international events.
The competition will be held in 119 tribal dominated blocks and 195 non-tribal blocks spread over all the 30 districts of the state.
The players will be chosen for the competition through nomination.
Players up to the age of 35 can participate in the competition.
The competition will be held in individual events like Athletics, Archery and in team events like football, hockey, Kabbadi, Kho Kho and Volleyball.
Winners at the district and state level competition would be presented with cash award.
While a sum of Rs 3.
61 lakh cash prize would be given to the winning players in each district, over Rs 1.
8 crore would be given in cash prize to the winning players all over the state.
In state level a cash prize of Rs 5,55,600 will be given.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the logo and Mascot –‘’OLY’’for the competition. UNI
