New Delhi, Dec 19: The BJP on Tuesday ruled out any defamatory suit or any other legal action against suspended Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for his "neech" comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the electorate itself has given a "big jolt"on the matter.
""Us par Janta ne hi bahut bara jhatka diya hae (People have given a big jolt on the matter)," BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters here.
The high profile former Union Minister Mr Aiyar had sparked off major controversy when he has described Prime Minister as "bahut hi neech (very low-standard person)".
While BJP and Prime Minister made a big issue on the same, put on defensive the Congress party had suspended Mani Shankar Aiyar, a former friend of the Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The BJP has, however, said that the suspension of Mr Aiyar was mere "strategic" and insisted that the controversial remarks only tried to drive home a point that "only one elite family" can rule India.
"Mani Shankar Aiyer’s ‘Neech’ -attack on Prime Minister- a deliberate casteist statement, a convenient apology, a strategic suspension. People should see through this game," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said in a tweet.
"The Congress Party has challenged the weaker and backward sections of India by calling the Prime Minister as ’Neech’ . The strength of India’s Democracy will be displayed when a person of humble background politically defeats the dynasty and its representatives," Mr Jaitley has said.
"Mani Shankar Aiyer’s ‘Neech’ remark against the Prime Minister displays a mindset that only one elite family can be a ruler and the rest are only the ‘Neech’," the Finance Minister has said. UNI
