Ahmedabad, Dec 5: The Election Commission has directed Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat and
other poll authorities to ensure that any newspaper advertisements in the last
stage of election should not vitiate the election atmosphere in the state.
According to sources here, the poll panel also directed that
no newspaper advertisement shall be published on December 8 and 9 in
"without prior clearance".
The campaigning for first phase of polls comes to end on December 7 and the first phase of voting would take place on December 9. In the first phase, polling would be held for 89 seats.
The election authorities in Gujarat have been also directed that no misleading and 'inflammatory' ads are published. Therefore, it has been directed that no political party, candidate, organisation or person will bring out ads in the print media on December 8 and 9 unless the contents are pre-certified by Media Certification and Monitoring Committee at the district or state level.
