Srinagar, Dec 16: Train service resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a rally in Anantnag in south Kashmir.
'After remaining suspended for security reasons, we have resumed all train runs in the Kashmir valley,' a railway official told UNI.
He said train run has already started on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north since this morning. Similarly, train will run on Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region.
Normally, Saturday and Monday witness heavy rush of passengers, particularly in the evening and morning respectively when people are going to their homes or resuming normal activities after Sunday, he said.
Train service has become very popular and its being considered very safe, fast and cheap against other mode of transport in Kashmir.
This was for the 47th time train service has been suspended partially or fully in the Kashmir valley during this year.
The railway authorities are acting on the advice of police, he said. Last year the train service remained suspended for about six summer months due to unrest. UNI
