New Delhi, Dec 27: The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday for
about half-an-hour amid disruptions and uproar by the Congress and TRS members
over two separate issues.
As soon as the House assembled for the
post-lunch session, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was joined by his party
lawmakers in protesting against the remarks reportedly made by Union Minister A
K Hegde over changing the Constitution, the TRS members raised the demand for
setting up the High Court in Telangana. As Mr Kharge began reading out a newspaper report, purportedly carrying Mr Hegde's remarks, there was uproar in the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said Mr Kharge had sought to present the remarks made by Mr Hegde in a twisted manner and demanded that unparliamentary words from it should be expunged.
The Parliamentary Affairs Minister reiterated the commitment of the NDA government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in upholding the Constitution which was the 'national book' and guiding light for the government.
He asked the Congress to refrain from giving a lesson on secularism to others while it has practiced pseudo-secularism. He said architect of the Constitution Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was honoured with the country's highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna when BJP-supported V P Singh government was at the helm.
He accused the Congress of doing precious little to honour Dr Ambedkar. He said the Congress should participate in the discussion in the House and refrain from rushing to the Well and disrupting the proceedings.
Amid noisy scenes and chanting of slogans in the Well by the Congress members, Jitendra Reddy of the TRS along with other party members raised the demand for setting up a High Court in Telangana which had not been done over the past more than three years. TRS members, carrying placards in support of their demand, rushed to the Well of the House. While describing their demand as 'valid' Mr Kumar assured them that he would convey the urgency of their demand and concern to the Law and Justice Minister.
As the uproar continued, Minister of State for Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri moved the National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
BJP member Meenakshi Lekhi began to speak on the amendment amid uproar but her speech was drowned in the din forcing Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai to adjourn the House for about half-an-hour, third adjournment during the day. UNI
