Chennai, Jan 2: Continuing its crackdown on dissidents, the ruling AIADMK on Tuesday relieved nine
functionaries, said to be supporters of rebel leader T T V Dhinakaran,
from their party posts.
A joint statement issued by Chief Minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who
were also the Joint Co-ordinator and Co-ordinator respectively, the
functionaries hailed from nine districts. Those stripped of their party posts were from Kancheepuram Central, Vellore West, Cuddalore East, Theni, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga and Tuticorin districts.
It may be recalled that ever since the ruling party candidate lost the RK Nagar bypoll to Dhinakaran, who won as an Independent candidate by a margin of over 40,000 votes, AIADMK has been cracking its whip in a bid to prevent dissension within the party.
Both Mr Palaniswami and Mr Panneerselvam had already sacked more than 150 functionaries from the primary membership of the party and relieved several of them from their party posts. UNI
