Agartala, Jan 9: Mr Subal Bhowmik, BJP state committee vice-president, today accused the
election officials working at the lower and middle levels, of manipulating the
electioneering in favour of tge ruling CPI-M.
Bhowmik stated that after final publication of electoral
rolls it was found in a few cases that fake names had not been removed from the
voters' list. The BJP state president had constituted micro level committees at
the lowest level of the party to scrutinise the final roll and so far the feedback
indicated the existence of fake and illegal names.
“In most constituencies the BJP had filed Forms 6 and 7 for deleting and inclusion of new names in the electoral roll. During hearing it was established the presence of fake names in the voters' list but finally most of our objections were unaddressed,” Bhowmik stated.
He pointed out that many Bangladeshi nationals' names figured in the electoral roll in bordering constituencies and even in two particular constituencies of Agartala. Those were identified by the BJP volunteers after draft publication. They raised objection with proof but still most of the names were found exist, he alleged.
“We are working on intensive verification of electoral roll and in a day or two the matter will be taken up with the Election Commission of India (ECI). The BJP does not favour to affect the due schedule of the election but also it will not support to hold the polls with fake voters. The issue has also taken up at the top level of the party,” Bhowmik stated.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) was also informed about the steps of "manipulation" of the election process at the behest of ruling party, which starts from electoral roll and ends at the counting hall, he said adding, “The poll officials were pulled from the state government departments and most people got engaged in government job with the backing and support of ruling CPI-M. Hence, they are being used by ruling party for their electoral gain.”
Bhowmik however, added that tge ECI had assured a BJP delegation which met them a week ago over the issues of electoral malpractices that the commission will take the steps to plug the flaws and appropriate action would be taken against the erring officials. After final assessment of the electoral roll, ECI will be informed once again, he added. UNI
