New Delhi, Jan 5: Indian Navy on Friday signed a contract worth Rs 1,949.32-crore with the US-based Boeing for the procurement of Training Simulator for P8I aircraft, along with construction of a 60,000 sq ft civil facility and an on-site Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract for a period of 10 years.
"P8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Anti Submarine Warfare (LRMRASW) aircraft were inducted into the Indian Navy commencing 2013. Towards training of the P8I pilots, observers, ordnance and technical personnel, a contract has been signed with the Boeing," the Indian Navy said in a statement.
The complete training facility would be commissioned at INS Rajali, Arakkonam by March 2021.
In addition, as part of the contract, a dedicated Maintenance Simulator would also be commissioned at Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT), Kochi for ab-inito training of the technical personnel.
On Thursday, the Defence Ministry had given its approval for the procurement of P-8I Training Solution and Low Intensity Conflict Electronic Warfare System (LICEWS) at a combined cost of Rs 2419.32 crore for Navy and Army.
The decision was taken by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The simulator would help Indian Navy train and realistically rehearse for sophisticated missions involving P-8I aircraft, at a fraction of the cost of live aircraft training.
The second proposal cleared was for procurement of LICEWS from Bharat Electronics Limited for Rs 470-crore.
This system will equip Indian Army with upgraded communications infrastructure to effectively deal with advanced communications systems being used by terrorist groups. UNI
