New Delhi, Jan 3: Strongly condemning the anti-Dalit violence in Maharashtra, the Congress on
Wednesday charged the Government of stifling the voice of Opposition in the
Rajya Sabha.
Talking to reporters here, senior Congress leader and Leader
of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, terming the BJP as
anti-Dalit, said, "atrocities are being inflicted on Dalits since the last
three-and-a-half years, ever since the BJP came to power at the Centre.’’
Charging the government of stifling the voice of the opposition in Parliament, Mr Azad said, "in the Rajya Sabha, we wanted a discussion on the issue of atrocities on Dalits. We wanted to raise the issue of the Dalit violence in Maharashtra but were not allowed to do so. The proceedings of the House were not telecast so that our voice does not reach the people.’’
The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were repeated adjourned after the Opposition protested over dalit violence in Maharashtra, forcing two adjournments in the pre-lunch session. UNI
