Panaji, Jan 10: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that there was need to make science an attractive field and develop passion for it.
Addressing a press conference at Sanskriti Bhavan in the city, he said, 'Pure science is very important. Certain percentage of graduates and post graduates should come to teaching profession. Teaching profession should attract the best. Unluckily lot of people think that teaching profession, particularly in engineering, does not pay well whereas actual practical application pays well. So we will have to make science an attractive field. And one of the ways to make it attractive is financial aspect. Passion should be developed for pure science.'
The Chief Minister said that unless there was growth of pure science, derivative branches or the supportive branches could not have required strength.

Mr Parrikar said there was also need to cultivate scientific way of thinking.
'I see confusion many times in the thinking process, understanding issues on various matters, including very serious matters which are being discussed in the state at the this stage. I also see gap in thinking process, gap in understanding nuance of issues. This comes out of probably less scientific way of thinking,' he said. UNI
