Patna, Jan 6: Former minister Shyam Rajak today demanded immediate constitution of National Judicial Service
Commission for appointment of judges in higher judiciary against large
number of existing vacancies to expedite the disposal of huge backlog of pending
cases.
Mr Rajak said here that a total of 6,379 posts of judges were vacant in various courts across the country while nine High Courts were functioning without Chief Justice and posts of seven judges would fall vacant in Supreme Court this year.
It was the need of the hour to constitute National Judicial Service Commission for appointment of Judges against vacant posts and Centre should take immediate steps in this direction, he added.
The JD(U) leader said large number of vacant posts of judges was the main reason behind huge backlog of cases in various courts across the country. As per assessment, number of pending cases in courts across the country was more than 2.75 crores, he said adding that poor and under privileged were the worst sufferers of the prevailing scenario.
