Activist 'Traffic' K R Ramaswamy on Thrusday moved the Madras High court seeking to stop the acquisition of
'Veda Nilayam, the Poes garden residence of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, to convert
it into a public memorial.
In his Public Interest Litigation (PIL), he
sought a direction restraining the state government from taking over her house and converting it
into a memorial using public funds.
He also submitted that the government should not
be allowed to build a memorial for the late leader, who was also convicted in the DA
case.
Ramaswamy has moved the court a couple of days after government commenced the
acquisition process to survey the property and complete the acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and
Resettlement Act. UNI
