Srinagar, Jan 9: The train service between Srinagar and Banihal in Jammu region was on Tuesday resumed after remaining suspended for security reasons for a day.
However, rail run from the summer capital to Baramulla in north Kashmir was not affected and chug normally.
Today, trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar in central Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region via Anantnag and Qazigund in south valley, a railway official told this morning.
'All trains on this route were suspended since early Monday morning apprehending trouble following protest called by locals at village Malangpora in Pulwama,' he said.
The decision to suspend the train service was taken on the advice by local authorities and police in view of apprehension of violence during the protest.
However, train service on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in north was running as per schedule, he added.
Last year, the rail service was suspended for security reasons for more than 50 occasions partially or fully.
In the past, railway property had suffered massive damage during protests in the valley, where the train services remained suspended for about six months during summer unrest in 2016. UNI
