Advani said, 'I am deeply saddened by the news that Pujya Shankaracharya
Jayendra Saraswathiji, the 69th Jagadguru of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt, attained
Mahasamadhi this morning in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
"Jayendra Saraswathi Swami ji headed one of the holiest religious establishments in India. He succeeded His Holiness Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Mahaswamiji in 1994. He expanded the Kanchi Mutt’s spiritual and social welfare activities manifold in different parts of India.'
Mr Advani said the Kanchi Shankracharya helped in promoting mutual trust and goodwill between Hindu and Muslim communities by initiating a dialogue with various religious and social leaders of the Muslim community to evolve an amicable solution to the Ayodhya dispute.
'Swamiji proactively initiated a dialogue with various religious and social leaders of the Muslim community to evolve an amicable solution to the Ayodhya dispute. This dialogue helped a lot in promoting mutual trust and goodwill between Hindu and Muslim communities,' the veteran BJP leader said.
'I had the privilege of knowing Jayendra Saraswathi Swami ji very closely. Our association became closer during the rule of NDA-I, when I was the Minister of Home Affairs in the government headed by Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji,' Mr Advani said.
'I join millions of devotees of the Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt in offering my prayers to the Almighty and in seeking peace to the departed soul,' Mr Advani added. UNI
