New Delhi, Feb 6: MoS Home Affairs Hansraj Ahir informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday about various
steps taken to improve infrastructure in Naxal-hit areas.
During Question Hour, Mr Ahir said at present, there are
eight battalions of BSF, one battalion of CoBRA deployed in Odisha for
assisting the state police in anti-LWE operations.
The deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in LWE affected areas was a dynamic process based on the situation, availability of forces and other ground realities.
He said the Odisha government has requested for inclusion of Kalahandi district under the category of 'Worst-affected LWE Districts' but the level of violence in the district does not warrant any inclusion of the district under the category.
Responding to a supplementary, the Minister said there has been decrease in the number of Naxal activities and the government has been 30 per cent successful in reducing such incidents. He also said money has been sanctioned for mobile towers, skill development and electrification of villages. UNI
