New Delhi, Feb 19: The Supreme Court on
Monday asked the Centre to file a detailed response as to what are the states and
their quota status with respect to quota allocations for Haj pilgrims.
The three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak
Misra, was hearing a plea filed by Kerala Haj Committee challenging the 2018
Central government's guidelines in Haj matter case.
"We ask the Union of India (UOI) to file a detailed reply as to what are the states and their status with respect to giving quota to Haj pilgrims," the bench ruled.
The apex court also sought to know from the Union of India as to what are the numbers left from all the state governments as far as the quota seats are concerned in giving Haj pilgrims their due.
Now the matter would come up for hearing on February 21 before the bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud. UNI
