New Delhi, Feb 27: The Election Commission will announce the poll schedule for Karnataka assembly by mid-April, after the school board examinations are over.
Talking to a Television Channel, Chief Election Commissioner O.P Rawat said that three Election Commissioners, Sunil Arora, Ashok Lavasa and himself, likely to visit Karnataka in the last week of March or first week of April to analyse the situations in the state.
The term of 224 members Karnataka Assembly will be over by May 28.
“We will announce the poll dates around April 15, because the school board examinations will be over by end of March and other examinations before April 14”, Mr Rawat said.
Karnataka is already witnessing a high decibel campaign by ruling Congress Party and opposition Bharatiya Janata Party.
JD(S), which is a third major political party in the state has announced its pre-poll alliance with Mayawati led BSP.
The Congress party is fighting the election under the leadership of incumbent Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the BJP has declared former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa as their chief ministerial candidate.
Mr Rawat also said that he had received many complaints from children in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies, where bye-elections are scheduled on March 11.
Children complained about the noise and chaos that elections cause interferes with examinations, he said. UNI
