Bengaluru, Feb 16: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has stopped all its services beyond Karnataka border points to Tamil Nadu in anticipation of protests following the Supreme Court order on Cauvery River Water sharing on Friday.
KSRTC authorities said they will assess the situation following the final Cauvery verdict and operate buses to Tamil Nadu if the situation was peaceful. But at present all buses to Tamil Nadu from various points like Hosur, Coimbatore and other border points have been stopped.
However, no untoward incidents were reported so far.
A senior official of the KSRTC said, 'we have operated all the 408 schedules from Bengaluru to Tamil Nadu and morning services were also normal. From Tamil Nadu side, they have stopped Mysuru-bound buses. After we will assess the situation and operate buses. We have stopped plying buses to Tamil Nadu from Chamrajanagar and Mysore division, following instructions from TN police. They will be dropping the passengers at the inter-state border, according to officials.'
KSRTC officials in Mysuru said the buses plying to Coimbatore were returning from Hasanur on the border while buses plying to Udhagamandalam were returning from Chekkahalla.
Meanwhile, the Mandya district police said they will provide security to TN registered vehicles that commute on Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, other State and National highways passing through the district. KSRTC operates 74 trips to TN from Mysuru everyday. KSRTC officials said that all buses from Mysuru were back in the state and there were no KSRTC buses from Mysuru in the neighbouring state.
In Bengaluru, the police have rounded up as many as 50 habitual offenders and mischief mongers as precautionary measure in and around the city since Thursday night. They have stepped up patrolling
in sensitive and hyper sensitive areas, besides pressing 60 platoons of KSRP and 40 platoons of CAR into service to monitor law and order. UNI
