RAJOURI, MARCH 03: The
Department of Indian System of Medicine, Rajouri today organized a day-long
awareness camp under National AYUSH Mission (NAM), a centrally sponsored scheme
to promote AYUSH medical systems through cost effective AYUSH services,
strengthening of educational system with increased focus on new researches to
enhance quality of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani and Homeopathic drugs.
Additional DDC A.S Chib inaugurated and presided
over the proceedings of the camp. Chief Medical Officer Dr Suresh Gupta, MS
District Hospital Dr Mehmood Bajjar, Addl DMO ISM Dr Haider Hussain Shah,
Medical Officers ISM, Paramedics, ISM Pharmacists, social activists, civil
society members among others attended the camp.
Complimenting the ISM department for its unparallel
achievements in healthcare services in the district, A.S Chib said the state of
Jammu and Kashmir is renowned world over for having enormous number of
medicinally important herbs with Rajouri sharing a major chunk of these plants.
These herbs are useful in treatment of various diseases, that too without any
side-effects, he added.
He impressed upon the participants to put in
dedicated efforts to realize the vision of NAM vis-à-vis
providing cost effective and quality health services. He also assured to take
up the demand for repair and renovation of ISM dispensaries with construction
of latrines and issue of shortage of staff with District Development
Commissioner.
CMO and MS DH Rajouri also applauded the doctors
and paramedics of ISM for their contribution in delivery of health services.
They said the Allopathy and ISM should go hand-in-hand for providing quality
health services with organization of bridge courses for ISM officers and staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Addl DMO Dr Haider said
the AYUSH is internationally acknowledged system for curing diseases and
maintaining a quality health standard.
Referring to WHO report, he said there are around
20,000 recognized medicinal plants worldwide, of which 2,000 herbs are found in
J&K. He informed that the AYUSH mission was launched by
the Central Government with a budget outlay of Rs. 24 crore for making AYUSH
services affordable to all, promotion of research and cultivation of herbs for
sustained supply of raw material for ayurvedic, unani and homeopathic drugs.
Experts including Dr Zakir Hussain, Dr Rajan
Sharma, Dr Mohd Marouf and Dr R.K Bajaj delivered lectures on scope and future
of course action for development of Unani and ayurvedic systems of medicine and
cupping therapy.
