New Delhi, Mar 7: The BJP on Wednesday condemned the attack on Karnataka Lokayukta Justice P
Vishwanath Shetty, who was stabbed multiple times in his office in Bangalore.
'It is very unfortunate that in day light
attack, an unknown person stabbed the Lokayukta thrice with a knife and he is
battling for his life,' said Union Minister Ananth Kumar while addressing
reporters here.
He said it was deeply shocking that even a Lokayaukta is not safe in Bengaluru. 'This shows a complete breakdown of law and order in Karnataka. Sad outcome of goon governance of the Congress,' he stated.
Law and order in Karnataka under Mr Siddaramaiah government has gone to winds, he said, adding that 'My prayers are for Lokayukta Justice Shetty to recover fast and gets back to work soon.'
In last four years, more than 24 BJP workers were murdered and many IAS and IPS officers died in a suspicious manner, the Union Minister, who is a six-time MP from Bengaluru South, said.
In a daring daylight crime, an attempt was made to murder Justice Shetty by a person who was arrested by police while escaping after committing the crime.
As Justice Shetty shouted with pain, the police rushed inside his chamber and were shocked to see him with blood oozing out from the body. He was immediately rushed to Mallaya Hospital and Dr Anand attending him stated that he is out of danger.
The culprit was identified as Tejraj Sharma, a native of Rajasthan and staying in Tumakur in Karnataka.
A former judge of the Karnataka high court, Justice Shetty was appointed Lokayukta in January 2017 after the post had been vacant for a year. His predecessor, Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, a former chief justice of the high court, had to quit under a cloud in the face of an alleged bribery scandal involving his son. UNI
