Davanagere, Karnataka, Mar 27: BJP National President Amit Shah welcomed the announcement of date for election to Karnataka Legislative Assembly to be held in a single phase on May 12 and expressed confidence that the BJP will gain majority and come back to power in the Southern state.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Shah, who is currently on tour in three districts of Karnataka, said people’s response towards BJP was positive and the party was confident of bagging over 150 seats in the 224-member Assembly.
In Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat on Tuesday announced that the Assembly election in Karnataka will be conducted on May 12 and counting will take place on May 15. The new government would be installed by May 28.
Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, KPCC President G Parameshwara welcomed the announcement of date for Assembly poll by CEC and said the party was 'ready for the election'. 'Congress is confident of surpassing its performance during 2013 election and gain a comfortable majority to retain power,' he said.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking in Bengaluru welcomed the CEC announcement.
'Congress is ready to face the election. It (ECI announcement) was expected little late, but since CEC has announced the date, we welcome it.'
JD(S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda said in Bengaluru that his party welcomes the decision of the ECI. 'Party will not have alliance with either Congress or the BJP and fight the election alone,' he said. UNI
