Agartala, Mar 3: The BJP is set to secure 35 of the 60 seats in Tripura, while its ally IPFT bagged six seats as counting progressed today.
The ruling CPI(M) won 19 seats so far, but its partners RSP, CPI and Forward Bloc are yet to open account.
The saffron party took an upper hand in all the six assembly constituencies in the northern district of Dhalai.
The BJP was quick to credit Prime Minister Narendra Modi party chief Amit Shah for the result.
Party leader Ram Madhav on Saturday described the mandate in fiercely contested Tripura polls as "satisfactory" and said the people of the northeastern state have voted for "change".
"The trend is satisfactory and all indications are there that BJP will be able to form a stable government," BJP leader Ram Madhav told reporters here.
'Modiji was monitoring the way the party workers were working hard in Tripura. Besides, he addressed four rallies," Mr Madhav said. UNI
