Archives Archaeology and Museums Jammu and Kashmir
Mohammad Shafi Zahid was presented with the “Rastriya Gaurav
Award” by the India International Friendship Society in
view of his meritorious and professional achievements in the field of
Archaeology, at a function held at India International Centre, New Delhi.
The award was conferred to him for his contribution
in the archeological studies and preservation of artifacts during his tenure in
the Department.
Mohammad Shafi Zahid during his tenure as an
Archaeologist excavated various ancient sites like Buddhist Site at Letpora
(Pulwama), Ancient site of Kutbal dated back to 100 to 400 A.D etc, made
remarkable contribution in discoveries of coinage which include copper coins
(1500) at Vatnag Kukarnag, (193-coins) at Charisharif Budgam, (850-coins) at
Nummar Budgam besides playing an important role in the enhancement of
collections of the Department in its Museums at Srinagar and Jammu.
The function was attended by Scholars, parliament
members and some speakers of different states.
